It constitutes a system innovation that involves several links of the production chain, and crosses the borders of different agricultural and industrial sectors. The services provided by these parks range from common facilities for processing units, development of farm linkages for supply of raw material, development of forward linkages in domestic and export markets
The Mega Food Park is a demand driven farm to market solution for the food processing industry which has common infrastructure & facilities for the Raw material procurement, logistics support, Ware houses, cold storage, sub zero storage, food testing lab & common utilities of power, water, transportation etc. The Mega Food Park is designed by keeping in view the specific requirements of the Food Industry having world class infrastructure norms.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industry (MOFPI), Government of India has recently announced setting up of 15 Mega Food Parks in the country in Phase – 3.
The Mega Food Park should be most modern industrial infrastructure & dedicated to Food Processing Industry. It will be set up as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI), Government of India. It will have best possible common facilities and amenities to attract the entrepreneurs. The food park will have plots for medium and large scale industries and built-up sheds for small and micro food processing units. The sheds and plots will be available on long term lease basis and a few sheds for the small scale industry will be available on short term lease. The following facilities can be planned at Central Processing Center.
- Common Facilities like Internal Roads, Water & Electricity Supply, etc.
- Forward and Backward Integration like Nearby Markets etc.
- Common Technical Facilities like Cold Storages, Modern warehouses, etc.
- Common Amenities like Guest houses, Restaurants, Shopping Center etc.
Incentives and Government benefits
Grant Assistance for creation of common infrastructure facilities: Basic, core processing and non-core infrastructure.
Ministry will also provide from its side, Ministry will provide 50% of the eligible project cost upper cap limit up to Rs. 50 Cr in general areas or 75% of eligible project cost maximum limit up to Rs 50 Cr in difficult & hilly areas and ITDP notified areas.
Note: Eligible project cost is defined as total project cost minus the cost of land, pre-operative expenses and margin money for working capital.
1. A minimum 50 acres of land in the name of promoters, SPV
2. Combined net worth of the shareholders of the proposed SPV should not be less than Rs.50 Cr.
3. Food processors with a minimum net worth of Rs 10 Cr should have at least 26% stake in proposed SPV.
